Covid 19 Passport – is there an easy way to carry it with you?

Welcome to 2022 everyone!

I sincerely hope this will be the year that everything gets back to normal – and by normal, I mean that old use of the word, not this funky “new normal” that we all keep talking about. I hope you all had a happy and, just as importantly, healthy festive time over the past few weeks.

It seems that if we want to go anywhere more interesting than the living room or kitchen nowadays, we must carry our Covid passport with us and this month I thought that I would share with you a little app I have found that helps keep a copy of this important document stored in an easily accessible place on your phone or tablet.

Getcovidpass.eu is a website that will digitize your EU Covid Certificate and store it on your phone so that you can easily retrieve it when you need to get into somewhere that requires it – that said I went to the hospital today and was never asked for it, don’t you love it when rules are not enforced evenly across all sectors of society?

Anyway, back to the tech. All you need is your EU Covid Certificate (the paper copy) or your QR code (it’s on the same document) and you can do this. I know that you can already take a photo of your certificate and store it on your phone or tablet, but then it’s never where you thought you left if when you need to get into your favourite restaurant is it? This app will store it in a digital wallet (or in the wallet app if you have an iPhone) for easy access whenever you need it.

So, how do you do this, its easy, just visit www.getcovidpass.eu using your phone or tablet and click on the “create yours” button, accept the privacy warning and click continue. At this stage you can either upload a photograph of your EU Covid Certificate (if you happen to have a copy of it in your photos folder) or you can take a photograph of the QR code using your phone’s camera.

Once you’ve done that the website will create a digitised version of your certificate and store it in your wallet. If you have an Android phone then you will need to download the YourWallet app to store the certificate, but don’t worry the website does all of that for you. If you have an iPhone or iPad then the wallet app is already pre-installed in your phone.
