iOS 11 – Available Now For iPhones and iPads…

Are you lucky enough to be the proud owner of an apple iPhone or iPad? Then you probably have been receiving messages about a new operating system. It’s called iOS 11 and it’s free to download if you have an iPhone 5S or an iPad mini 2, Pro or Air or newer. This month we will look at some of the advantages of this new system but also some of the things you should check before you decide to press the upgrade button. Read this entire article »

Amazon Echo Dot – amazing voice recognition device

Well we have a new gadget / toy / essential piece of equipment (delete as appropriate) at BlueMoon Towers this month. Her name is Alexa and as an experiment in voice controlled, computerised assistant its pretty good, and is about the size of a black or white puck.

Amazon have created a thing called the Echo Dot. It is a small (and cheaper) version of the Echo which is a speaker that sits in your home and connects to your Internet connection and spends its life listening to its activation word. Once it hears this word it will attempt to interperet what you say afterwards and do whatever you instruct it to do. Read this entire article »

Making Your Wireless Signal Go Further…

Many of us nowadays use our computers, laptops, tablets, phones and even other devices wirelessly. It’s convenient and simple to connect our devices to wireless networks (well it is if our Internet Service Provider give us a nice simple password to use, eh?) and we use them on more and more things in the home; the problem is that the signal strength, when combined with our concrete walls here on the Costa Blanca, sometimes can be an issue – so what can we do about it? Health Related Christmas Gifts for Smart Phone Users…

Well, we are well and truly on the lead up to Christmas! With that in mind I thought I would review some tech-based health themed Christmas gifts that you might want to consider for the smartphone user in your life.

Withings do a great range of health devices that will communicate direct with your smart phone, tablet or PC to enable you to track various aspects of your health. Read this entire article »

Is It Me…

I quite often receive phone calls and emails from people telling me that they have problems with their Internet and they dont know whether the problem is with them (i.e. their computer / laptop / tablet) or with their service providers (i.e. Movistar, local wireless provider etc.) – this month we attempt to give you some tools that should help you identify where the problem is and therefore be able to contact the appropriate person with a little more confidence. Put whatever is on your laptop / tablet / phone on your TV

Ok, so you have your nice shiny internet enabled device (it could be your laptop, your tablet or your smart phone) and you are more than able to use it to browse the internet, play YouTube videos or even play catch up TV that you have accessed with your favourite VPN or proxy server, but you’re still frustrated with that tiny screen on your device. Well read on – we have the answer! Read this entire article »

2014 – Review

Wow, what a year! It doesn’t seem two minutes ago that we were complaining about how hot it was – now we have the log burners on and are sitting shivering under the blankets at night! This month, given its a New Year I thought it might be nice to review what we covered last year in our monthly articles. Read this entire article »

Armageddon coming to a Windows XP machine near you!

On the 8th April this year Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP (and Office 2003) – that is, if you read the popular press and believe everything that the “guy down the pub that knows computers” says then your whole computing world will end. Famine will sweep across your hard drive, a plague of locusts may well emerge from your CD ROM drive and every single hacker in the whole world will go to town on your bank account details. Or will they? Read this entire article »

Happy Valentines Day!

This month will see an orgy of gift-giving and sloppy obsession as couples around the Costa Blanca show their appreciation for one another on Valentine’s Day, so this month I thought we would have a look at some technology you might want to buy your other half to help get them into better shape.

Of course if you really loved your partner you would have bought them a Microsoft X-Box One for Christmas like my lovely wife did! If you didn’t then don’t worry, by using the information in this article I’m sure you will be able to recover and once again ingratiate yourself with your other half. Read this entire article »

The Tile App – coming soon…

Never lose your stuff again – that’s the idea. If you are anything like me you spend more time trying to find your phone, keys, beer or (insert whatever it is you have lost recently) than you do using them! ‘Ere indoors regularly chastises me for doing a “boy search” and then manages to find the lost item within seconds in exactly the place that I have already turned upside down in a vain attempt to locate whatever it was I just couldn’t find.
