Windows 10 Wi-Fi “connected but no Internet” Issue…

Problem: Computer is reporting as not connected to the internet, however other devices (tablet, other computers etc.) on the same wireless network connect to the Internet without problem.

Affects: As far as we are aware we have only seen the problem on computers using Windows 10

Description: The Wi-Fi icon at the bottom right of the desktop shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it and when hovered over with the mouse pointer it reports “connected but no Internet”

Solution: The solution that we have found works for everyone with this particular problem is to forget the Wi-Fi network, reconnect and reboot – specific instructions are below…

  1. Left click on the Wi-Fi icon and select “network settings”
  2. Click Manage Wi-Fi settings
  3. Under Manage known networks, click the network you want to delete.
  4. Click Forget. This will disconnect you from your Wi-Fi network, you will need your Wi-Fi password to continue.
  5. Left click on the Wi-Fi icon
  6. Click on the Wi-Fi name that you just removed and click Connect
  7. Enter the wi-fi password for this network
  8. At this stage your Wi-Fi icon will still show as having no Internet
  9. Now restart your computer by clicking on the start button (bottom left of the desktop)
  10. Click the Power icon
  11. Click restart and when your computer starts up it should now connect successfully to the Internet
